Freddy's Steak House - Kitchen Nightmares Update

New episodes of Kitchen Nightmares return this week with a double episode to start the season. In one of the episodes, Gordon Ramsay is in Hammond, Indiana to help out the restaurant Freddy's Steak House.   The restaurant has been in business for many years and the owner is supposedly buried in debt.  Also, the manager and head chef are in a power struggle at the restaurant, which is causing issues.

Kitchen Nightmares visited Freddy's Steak House in May 2025 to film the episode, and I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about Freddy's Steak House to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Gordon Ramsay visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Kitchen Nightmares):

Positive Reviews:

  • "STILL THE SAME "CHICAGO STYLE STEAKHOUSE!" Consistency is key and that restaurant has been opened this long for a reason."
  • "Great steaks. A little pricey but really good."
  • "This is an hidden gem and a lot of people is missing out. Everything was great and they have one of the best steaks around. Come and check them out."
  • "Great local steakhouse that really delivers on what it does best—steaks that don’t disappoint and set the tone for the whole menu."
  • "I still love this place. Even 20 years later the food is delicious. We had live entertainment and the atmosphere was great. We came from Lowell to Hammond and will definitely be back soon."
  • "Haven't been here in years. Place does not disappoint. Garlic dressing is amazing and the ribs just fell off the bone. Will definitely be back"
  • "We’re absolutely thrilled with the incredible transformation of Freddy’s Steakhouse in Hammond, IN! Jim & Tammy have done an amazing job giving the restaurant a fresh new vibe while keeping all the nostalgic charm we love. Our dinners were, as always, perfectly prepared and delicious. Whether you’re looking for a night out with live music or a romantic dinner, Freddy’s is the place to be. "
  • "My family went here for my husband's birthday and we were all impressed! Service was attentive, food was EXTREMELY tasty, big portions, and reasonable prices. Fun, vintage atmosphere with live music on Saturday night!"

Negative Reviews:
  • "Absolutely terrible! The only good thing was the waitress! She kept telling us that since we ordered our steaks Well & Medium Well that it would take longer, an hour later we got our food only for it to be cold! My medium well steak was completely charred on the outside but absolutely raw on the inside. Even after they had cooked it longer it still was not medium well! They weren’t even that busy. We also were served a drink with a gnat swimming around in it! A complete disappointment. Will never eat here again."
  • "This WAS one of my favorite places and my first time going After their revamp, I was disappointed. The menu is limited, the things once enjoyed are no longer get available."
