Lyla's Family Restaurant - Kitchen Nightmares Update

On this week's episode of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay is in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to help out Lyla's Family Restaurant.  This will be a 2-part episode that will be two hours long. Lyla's Family Restaurant serves comfort food with a Mediterranean twist and they are currently struggling.  Gordon will have to revamp the menu and interior in hopes of turning the restaurant around.

Kitchen Nightmares visited Lyla's Family Restaurant in June 2025 to film the episode, and I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about Lyla's to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Gordon Ramsay visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Kitchen Nightmares):

Positive Reviews:

  • "I had a fantastic breakfast at my first visit to Lyla's. Everything very fresh and well prepared. Perfect poached eggs and a biscuit that was toasted on the griddle. Service was excellent as well. So glad I stumbled onto this place - will be back for sure and will send my friends."
  • "Went to Lylas for an early Sunday night dinner and was very impressed. The zucchini corn fritters were absolutely delicious and definitely a must try. Our server Jess was fantastic, super friendly, quick, and professional. The food came out fast, the flavors were spot on, and the prices were very reasonable for such great quality. I am already planning my next visit and cannot wait to come back and try their breakfast menu."
  • "Before and after the recent makeover I just love this place! I highly recommend this place . There is so much that sounds delicious on the menu , but today I decided on a simple fish sandwich and was very very happy!"
  • "My first time visit, after a friend recommended trying it out, and saying that it had been featured recently on the show with Gordon Ramsey. I can tell you that it did not disappoint in the slightest. Everything, even just the side vegetables were 100% on point. The meal was exceptional and the portion sizes were large, but the price was actually very low compared to the quality and size of the plates. "
  • "Lylas is the definition of a hidden gem. The food is so good and an affordable price. The service is wonderful and I love that the atmosphere is quiet enough that you can hear the company you bring. Its becoming one of favorites in the area."
  • "This was our second meal at Lyla’s, the first was a few days ago for breakfast, today we had dinner. The meals were delicious, prices very reasonable. The service and staff was great, it was nice to go to a restaurant and have a great experience. Highly recommend Lyla’s!!"

Negative Reviews:
  • "The wait staff is friendly, talkative and attentive. My wife and I were here on a Saturday morning at 8AM and we were the only customers. We left just after 9 AM and no one else has came in. I am not sure how the staff is making money. The menu is huge - do you really need to list 23 omelettes? I would have three or four specialties and then a make your own section. Cut the menu down and make it easier to read/decide. The food gets a mixed review.....The portions are big. Too big. Three eggs on Benedict, seven slices of bacon and a large fruit cup. I like to get a value but it has to be hard to make a profit with the price to portion ratio... I think the owner/chef really cares and is trying. Given that I think they care I am going with three stars. I wish them well but there are some issues they need to work on."
  • "Very very bad food. I am so shocked that this was after gordon ramsay. The broccoli cheese soup was nasty tasted so salty and no cheese and like chicken stock. The sausage gravy tasted like flour. The potato pancakes were gross. This was the worst food I've ever consumed in my life."
  • "Unfortunately, I did not have a great first experience here. The server knew very little of the menu and offered little assistance. The sodas were flat, which the server acknowledged and then offered no remedy. Each time we asked a question regarding something on the menu, she didn't know the answer."

Conclusion:

The reviews for Lyla's Family Restaurant have been mixed since the Kitchen Nightmares makeover with Gordon Ramsay, but they have definitely improved.  It seems that people like the food and affordability.  Lyla's has gone back to the large menu, but still kept the dishes that Gordon Ramsay brought to them.  They also have kept the prices low, so it seems that they mostly went back to their way of doing things.
